New Calgary neighbourhood set to see over 2,500 homes pop up

A new neighbourhood just broke ground in northeast Calgary, and once complete, it should bring over 2,500 new homes right to the city.
The community, called Stonegate, broke ground on June 17, 2026, and spans across 460 acres. It comes from Qualico Communities Calgary and is set to feature a mix of housing types such as apartments, townhouses, duplexes, and detached homes.
Alongside residential construction, the plan includes commercial space, a designated school site, emergency services, connected parks and pathways, and the preservation of an environmentally significant wetland.
The community is also expected to include improved connectivity to major routes such as Deerfoot Trail, Stoney Trail, and Metis Trail.

“Stonegate represents a unique opportunity for us to shape the future of northeast Calgary in a very meaningful way,” said Thilo Kaufmann, vice president of Qualico Communities Calgary, in a release.
“The land was previously designated for industrial development, but we saw the opportunity to create something lasting, a community that builds on the success of Redstone while bringing new housing opportunities to an already thriving part of the city.”
Site work is expected to begin immediately, and a full community launch is expected in 2027. Stonegate is just one of many communities to come from Qualico Communities Calgary. The developer also just secured land for a new 155-acre community in the northwest called Ammolite.
It seems like Calgary has quite a few new neighbourhoods in the works. Mattamy Homes recently announced a 153-acre community underway near Belvedere.
