Old Man Winter hit Calgary hard on Wednesday night, with 20 cm of snow falling by Thursday. (And there’s even more on the way.)
The heavy snowfall led to the closure of many schools throughout the city, though schools run by the Calgary Board of Education have remained open, despite the questionable road conditions.

According to a Thursday morning release from the Calgary Board of Education, yellow school bus service will be running, though parents/guardians can make their own decision on whether or not to send their children to school.
“Families and students are assured that all CBE schools will be open to provide a safe and secure environment for attending students,” the release read.
The following Calgary schools have announced a snow day due to the wintry conditions:
- Edelweiss Preparatory School
- Edge School For Athletes
- Edison School
- Khalsa School Calgary
- Mountain View Academy
- North Point School
- Strathcona –Tweedsmuir School
- West Island College
Whether or not these closures will be extended to Friday is still to be determined, as another 15 cm of snow is expected to fall by Thursday night.
According to a release from the City of Calgary, Priority 1 roads are being cleared, though drivers are urged to stay off the roads if at all possible.
