Calgary facing the risk of thunderstorms later today

Aug 20 2020, 10:53 am

Calgarians should keep a wary eye on the skies this evening, as we could be seeing some thunder and lightning.

Following what has been an ideal summer week with temperatures well into the 30s, Mother Nature finally decided that a classic Alberta thunderstorm was in order once more.

The Weather Network is warning of a risk of thunderstorms this afternoon and into the evening, with a possibility of precipitation sitting at 40% and expected rain coming in at under 1 mm.

Still, all it takes is one ill-timed lightning strike to seriously ruin your day, so Clagarians are warned to go indoors when they hear any sort of thunder above the city.

Hail and strong winds could also hit the city, so be sure that those sunroofs are closed.

The rest of the week is looking to be free of thunderstorms, and Friday is expected to see a high of 27°C that feels closer to 29°C — so as long as you can make it through this evening, it should be nothing but clear skies ahead.
