Appreciation for Calgary is reaching global heights, with YYC recently being ranked among the best cities in the world.

Resonance Consultancy, in partnership with Ipsos, revealed its World’s Best Cities Report, and Calgary made its way onto the list, landing in 54th place. While that may not seem like a high ranking, it’s a great accolade when taking into account the number of cities across the world.

Cities worldwide were ranked according to a proprietary “Place Power” score, which ranked them according to three key principles: liveability, lovability, and prosperity.

Resonance Consultancy surveyed over 22,000 people across 30 cities using three questions, with respondents being asked which three cities offered the best job opportunities and were the best to live in and visit.

These factors were then used to analyze cities in metropolitan statistical areas with populations of more than 1,000,000 people.

Calgary made the list for its excellence in crafting new urban development and hospitality. It received a special shoutout for the unveiling of the BMO Centre, which is set to make Calgary a “premier destination for international events and conventions.”

The city was also praised for its projects to improve housing affordability, including its initiatives to convert vacant office spaces into residential buildings.

Calgary was also ranked the seventh-best city in the world for educational attainment. The report details how Calgary’s young workforce is increasingly educated and supporting the city’s prosperity.

In addition to the factors recognized by Resonance Consultancy, there are plenty more reasons why Calgary is a remarkable city. From its close proximity to the Rockies to hosting the world-renowned Calgary Stampede, the city has tons of unique qualities to offer.

When it comes to its placing nationwide, Calgary cracked the top five cities in Canada, with Toronto taking the country’s top spot, followed by Vancouver, Montreal, and Ottawa.
