A popular park along the Bow River in Calgary is set to reopen following a $3.6-million revitalization project that brought some major upgrades to the area.
Pumphouse Park, located beside the historic Pumphouse Theatre in southwest Calgary, got some pretty big upgrades over the past year, focused on improving movement and accessibility.
One of the biggest changes includes the Bow River pathway through the park, which has been widened and adjusted to help with congestion between cyclists and pedestrians.
Other improvements include new places to sit and gather, like permanent fire pits with movable furniture, picnic tables, barbecues, benches, and a flexible open space that can be used for both events and everyday use.

The park now features expanded parking with 15 new asphalt parking spaces and additional gravel stalls, better pathway connections, and new trees and plants. The budget for the project was $3.6 million.
The revitalization has been in the works for almost five years, with the first phase of public engagement starting in the summer of 2021, followed by the second phase in 2022, and construction starting in the fall of 2024.
The City of Calgary is marking the reopening of the park on Thursday, June 25, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with a short ceremony, live performances, a poetry reading from Calgary’s newest Poet Laureate, food trucks, and family games.
