Here's what's open and closed on New Year's Day in Calgary

It’s hard to believe that 2026 is just about here, and with the year coming to a close, you might want to plan ahead and see what’s open and closed in Calgary on New Year’s Day.

Lots of businesses and services in Calgary will have adjusted hours for the holiday, and some will even be closed. Here are a few things that will be open and closed on New Year’s Day.

Calgary Public Library

All branches of the public library will be closed on New Year’s Day; however, they will be open until 5 p.m. on New Year’s Eve.

Leisure centres

Leisure centres such as Village Square Leisure Centre and Southland Leisure Centre will be closed on New Year’s Day.

Movie theatres

Cineplex Entertainment, Landmark Cinemas, and Canyon Meadows Cinemas will be open on New Year’s Day for moviegoers who want to grab some popcorn, snacks, and a comfy theatre seat.

Canada Post

Canada Post will be closed on New Year’s Day. There will be no collection or delivery of mail.

Malls like Chinook Centre and Market Mall are open on New Year’s Day with adjusted hours from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Southcentre Mall will be closed on Jan. 1, 2026
