
The Calgary Public Library has a lot to offer. You can find literature, workspaces, and a great place to hang out at all 22 of its branches, but it also offers a ton of courses, and all you need is a library card to access them.Â
Whether you’re a beginner looking to pick up a new skill or a seasoned learner wanting to sharpen a skill, there are courses for everyone.
The courses are interactive, instructor-led, and run for six weeks. Here are just a few of the free courses you can access at the Calgary Public Library.
Accounting Fundamentals

Learn the basics of double-entry bookkeeping, as well as how to analyze and record financial transactions. This course covers everything from handling accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll procedures, sales taxes, and various common banking activities.
Discover Sign Language

With this American Sign Language (ASL) course, you will learn how to finger spell the alphabet, sign colours, numbers, objects, and family members. You will also learn a wide range of everyday vocabulary that will allow you to engage in conversation with members of the Deaf community.
Stocks, Bonds, and Investing: Oh, My!

This course will teach you about the fundamentals of investing, including stock markets, 401(k) plans and retirement. It also goes over personal finance issues that are often ignored. You will learn how and why things work in the investment world.
Beginning Writer’s Workshop

This course will help beginner writers write their own creative piece. You will learn literary techniques, how to peer review a classmate’s work and receive constructive criticism on your own. It also covers everything from the prewriting stage to editing and final revisions.
Mastering Public Speaking
