Construction underway on new 131-room downtown Calgary hotel
A new hotel is officially on the way to downtown Calgary, with construction now underway on a 131-room hotel along the river.
Truman, Calgary Municipal Land Corporation (CMLC), and Marriott International announced the start of construction on Moxy Calgary East Village on Tuesday, Sept. 29.
The five-storey hotel will be located at 660 6th Ave. SE, along the Jack & Jean Leslie RiverWalk, and is expected to be completed in 2028. It will mark the neighbourhood’s third hotel.
The new hotel is set to include 131 rooms, communal gathering spaces, a fitness area, and amenities that will also be available to both guests and community members, including a bar and an outdoor thermal spa.
Truman purchased the site at 6th Avenue and Confluence Way SE in 2025, which CMLC says was the last of East Village’s prime riverfront sites.
The hotel is being developed as a Moxy, one of Marriott International’s lifestyle hotel brands, which is known for its smaller rooms and shared social spaces.

Moxy Calgary East Village is just one of the new developments coming to East Village. Earlier this year, construction started on Library Square, a 162-unit purpose-built rental development, as well as a 14-storey mixed-use project called Vibe.
