The Calgary Police Service has laid charges against a 20-year-old man in relation to an alleged sexual assault from this summer.

Alejandro Marin of Calgary is facing one count of sexual assault and one count of operating a motor vehicle without a license, according to a release from CPS.

The release states that a woman had been walking through a parking lot near the intersection of Southport Road SW and Southport Lane SW at around 11:30 am on August 15, when a suspect police believe to have been Marin pulled into the parking lot.

Marin then allegedly got out of his vehicle and started following the woman, approaching her from behind and touching her sexually without consent.

Police state that he then ran back to his vehicle, which has been identified as an older-model grey Ford Escape SUV, and fled.

Police are investigating if the alleged incident is related to a similar case from September that saw the sexual assault of an 11-year-old girl, wherein a suspect had approached her from behind and touched her sexually before running away, a CPS release from September 19 states.

Anyone who many information in either of these incidents is asked to contact the Calgary Police Service’s non-emergency number at 403-266-1234.

Tips can also be left anonymously through Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-8477 or through their website.
