Explore fandoms and win prizes during this four-month reading challenge

Calgary Public Library and the Calgary Comic & Entertainment Expo have paired up to host a reading challenge, and all that’s required to participate is a (free) library card.

The pandemic has caused many of us to pick up new hobbies over the past year, and one of those activities was reading. Whether you’ve returned to a long-forgotten love of books, or just recently discovered the joys a novel can bring, this contest has something for everyone.

Running now until May 15, kids and adults alike can take on both reading and creative challenges to be entered to win one of 25 prizes. Over the next few months, complete as many challenges as you can to increase your chances of taking home a prize pack.

It’s simple: after signing up online, click on a virtual badge to find the instructions for that challenge. Once a challenge is completed, you earn the corresponding badge.

One badge equals one entry, and the more you read, the more badges you earn, and in turn, the more entries you collect.

Along the way, participants will explore fandoms, foster a love of reading, and perhaps even discover a new favourite book.

Prize packs are as follows.

A Comic Prize Pack, which includes:

  • CALGARY EXPO Crossbody Bag
  • CALGARY EXPO Mug
  • “The War of Realms / Variant Edition #1” Marvel Comic Book
  • “Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spiderman #1” Marvel Comic Book
  • “Marvel Legacy #1” Marvel Comic Book
