The Calgary Flames have gotten another restricted free agent (RFA) off the board as they continue to shape their roster for the 2025-26 season.
After signing Matt Coronato shortly after the 2024-25 campaign had commenced, along with agreeing to a deal with Adam Klapka earlier this month, the Flames announced a new deal for defenceman Kevin Bahl this morning.
The 6-foot-6 defenceman, who was acquired as part of the package the Flames received in the Jacob Markstrom trade last season, put pen to paper on a six-year extension with a cap hit of $5.35 million.

While the AAV may seem a little high to those who didn’t watch the Flames a ton this year, fans in Calgary understand just how good Bahl was on the back end.
The recently turned 25-year-old was immediatelyy entrusted with a top-four role, averaging well over 21 minutes per game. It was a big jump given that he’d never averaged above 18 minutes in a season before at the NHL level.
Bahl didn’t just manage to survive in those minutes, but looked more than up to the challenge throughout the entire season. He is a very strong defensive presence, and showed a bit of offensive touch with three goals and 20 points in 73 outings.
With this signing complete, the Flames have just two RFA’s remaining from last year’s roster in Connor Zary and Morgan Frost. The Zary deal in particular is one that holds plenty of intrigue, as he is reportedly seeking a long-term deal, while the Flames are rumoured to be hesitant to do so given his injury troubles this past season.
