The Calgary Flames now have one less restricted free agent to worry about heading into the offseason.

The Flames announced this afternoon that they have re-signed forward Adam Klapka to a two-year, $2.5 million contract extension, which will carry an average annual value of $1.25 million.

It took Klapka some time to find his footing at the NHL level this season, as he was up and down between the Flames and Calgary Wranglers plenty. Near the end of the 2024-25 campaign, however, he proved just how impactful he can be at the NHL level, registering four goals and eight points over his final 10 games. On the season as a whole, he had six goals and 10 points in 31 outings.

The player the Flames fans saw close out the season was the one who has been present with the Wranglers for the past two years. The 24-year-old scored 21 goals and 46 points in 2023-24, and improved on that even further from a points-per-game perspective with 14 goals and 26 points in just 33 AHL games this past season.

The Flames originally signed Klapka as an undrafted free agent ahead of the 2022-23 campaign. It was immediately obvious why they were interested, as he stands at a massive 6-foot-8, 235 pounds. Should he continue to improve his offensive game, he has the opportunity to become a very impactful power forward for the organization.

With this signing out of the way, the Flames have three RFAs remaining from last year’s roster in Connor Zary, Morgan Frost, and Kevin Bahl. Just over a month ago, they were able to extend another RFA in Matt Coronato, agreeing to a seven-year, $45.5 million deal with the goal-scoring winger.
