The Calgary Flames will have a new face on their blueline in the very near future.
The Flames announced on Monday morning that they have recalled blueline prospect Hunter Brzustewicz from the AHL. The 21-year-old won’t be in the lineup versus the Buffalo Sabres, but could make his season debut as soon as Wednesday night against the Detroit Red Wings.

Brustewicz, who was acquired by the Flames from the Vancouver Canucks in the Elias Lindholm deal, is having a solid season to date with the Calgary Wranglers, scoring four goals and 12 points in 23 games thus far. The 2024-25 season saw him put up five goals and 32 points in 70 games as a rookie.
While this is the right-shot defenceman’s first call-up of the 2025-26 season, it won’t be his first time seeing NHL action. Brzustewicz, along with Zayne Parekh, Sam Morton, and Aydar Suniev, were able to suit up in the Flames’ final game of the 2025-26 campaign, a game in which they defeated the LA Kings by a 5-1 final.
It remains to be seen where Brzustewicz will slot into the Flames lineup, though he has spent time with Yan Kuznetsov at the AHL level. Either way, this is the first real opportunity for the young blueliner to prove that he has what it takes to be a full-time NHL defenceman.
There will be plenty of excitement from the fan base, as Brzustewicz is viewed as one of the top prospects in the entire organization.
