The Calgary Flames have locked up Martin Pospisil for the next several years.
The Flamesannounced on Wednesday afternoon that they have signed Pospisil to a three-year contract extension which will kick in for the 2026-27 season.

The deal is worth $7.5 million in total, and will carry an average annual value of $2.5 million.
That is a significant raise for the 25-year-old, who has one season remaining on a two-year deal that had a cap hit of only $1 million. He signed that deal during his rookie season in 2023-24.
Through his first 144 games as an NHLer, Pospisil has proven himself to be a very difficult player for opponents to play against. His physicality and ability to get under the skin of opposing players have helped make him quite valuable to the Flames. He also brings a ton of speed to the lineup, which makes him particularly effective on the forecheck.
The one area the Flames would still like to see improve from Pospisil is his offensive game. He showed some promise in his rookie season with eight goals and 24 points in 63 outings, but regressed in 2024-25 with just four goals and 25 points in 81 games.
Pospisil was one of two players the Flames were able to begin talking extension with as of July 1; the other being goaltender Dustin Wolf. It isn’t a big surprise to see Pospisil’s deal done before Wolf’s, as the 24-year-old goalie may want to wait and hope to show even more in 2025-26 to ensure he gets a home run of an extension.
Meanwhile, the Flames still need to work out an extension with Connor Zary, who is the lone RFA remaining from last season’s roster. The 23-year-old scored 13 goals and 27 points in 54 games in 2024-25.
