Calgary Flames owner doesn't want to trade Kadri: report

Calgary Flames ownership isn’t ready to write off the 2025-26 season just yet.

The Flames were a bit of a wildcard entering 2025-26. Some believed they would continue to build off of an impressive 2024-25 season, while others thought there may be some regression. Those who fell into the latter category appear to have been correct.

The Flames find themselves dead last in the NHL standings through 15 games with a 4-9-2 record. The poor start has had many fans wishing to see management trade some veteran players, such as Nazem Kadri, in exchange for younger players, prospects, or draft picks to help improve the future of the organization. Ownership appears to think differently.

According to TSN’s Darren Dreger on a recent segment of Insider Trading, owner Murray Edwards is a fan of this current core group, Kadri in particular. At this time, it appears as though there is no thought from the organization of dealing the 35-year-old, despite recent speculation.

“Murray Edwards, the owner of the Calgary Flames, is telling people that he has no interest in trading Nazem Kadri. He loves the core of this team. There’s a lot of hockey left in this regular season for the Flames, but it doesn’t sound like their ownership has any intention of trading away their veteran forward,” said Dreger.

Though Kadri, who is locked up through 2028-29, doesn’t appear to be going anywhere, his teammate, Rasmus Andersson, could still be moved at or ahead of the 2026 trade deadline.

Andersson is in the final season of a six-year contract that carries a $4.55 million cap hit. This is the 29-year-old’s big chance to cash in on a lucrative deal, one that may not make a ton of sense for Calgary to give him with where they are at as an organization.
