Kadri’s daughter had the most adorable pre-game moment with Calgary Flames

The Calgary Flames had a bit of a good-luck charm on Wednesday night.

The Flames had arguably their best performance of the season, defeating the Columbus Blue Jackets by a rather lopsided 5-1 final.

It was a great win for the Flames, who were looking to put forth a big effort on what was a big night for Nazem Kadri. The 35-year-old was honoured ahead of the game, as it was the 1,000th of his career.

“I just tried to soak it in, every single minute,” Kadri said. “It’s really a full circle. People that started with me are here now. I’m not gonna lie, I was a little bit anxious to drop the puck and just start the game.

“I just tried to take it in with a grain of salt and enjoy the day as much as possible.”

The Flames organization went above and beyond to celebrate the great achievement. Every player in the lineup showed up to the arena wearing customized Kadri shirts to celebrate the major milestone, before all taking the ice wearing No. 91 jerseys in warmup.

Perhaps the best gesture of all came just minutes before puck drop. Similar to what we saw during Mikael Backlund’s 1,000th game last season, the Flames opted to have Kadri’s daughter, Naylah, read the starting lineup.

“That was one of my favourite parts, for sure,” Kadri said. “She was a little bit nervous all day… That was probably the highlight of my day.”

Making the night all the more special was that Kadri was able to find the back of the net on a second-period marker that put the Flames up 3-1. It came off a great pass on a two-on-one from Joel Farabee, who had nothing but praise for his veteran linemate afterward.

“I was saying on the bench that I should’ve kept my 91 jersey on from warm-ups and just looked him off,” Farabee joked. “It was one of those plays, a forward playing [defence]. I knew I had a really good chance, and I saw Naz. It was pretty simple where it was going.”

Getting overshadowed on the big night was the fact that the Flames are now riding a mini two-game winning streak for the first time this season.

They still have a ways to go to dig themselves out of their 4-9-2 hole, something that head coach Ryan Huska seems confident they can do given what they’ve shown as of late.

“We are starting to do things that are more indicative of a winning team,” Huska explained. “I still think we have a ways to go, but that’s a few areas for sure [that are] a huge step in the right direction. [Just] one penalty tonight again. You give yourself a chance to win games when you’re disciplined like that.”

The Flames will have an opportunity to make it three-in-a-row on Friday, as they are set to welcome Connor Bedard and the Chicago Blackhawks to town.
