The Calgary Flames may not be done making changes just yet, but we have a fairly good sense of what their roster will look like next season.
While it remains to be seen what happens with Rasmus Andersson regarding a potential trade, the rest of the skaters on the Flames roster will likely be in Calgary for training camp in a few months.
Assuming the roster does remain intact, here is a look at the Flames’ projected lines for the 2025-26 season:
Forwards
Jonathan Huberdeau – Nazem Kadri – Matt Coronato
Joel Farabee – Morgan Frost – Connor Zary
Blake Coleman – Mikael Backlund – Yegor Sharangovich
Ryan Lomberg – Justin Kirkland – Martin Pospisil
Adam Klapka
Though Matt Coronato found good chemistry with Mikael Backlund and Blake Coleman last season, the Flames should give him an opportunity with their best playmaker in Jonathan Huberdeau right from the get-go. Having Kadri on that line is a no-brainer as well, as he and Huberdeau discovered great chemistry themselves last season.
There aren’t too many other shocking decisions here, though Adam Klapka could become a regular in the lineup in a hurry if he continues to play the way he did to close out the 2024-25 campaign.
Defencemen
Kevin Bahl – Rasmus Andersson
MacKenzie Weegar – Zayne Parekh
Joel Hanley – Brayden Pachal
Jake Bean
Ilya Solovyov
The Flames’ back end could wind up looking different come training camp given the Andersson situation. If he remains in Calgary for the start of the season, however, it seems safe to assume he will continue to play alongside Kevin Bahl.
Despite MacKenzie Weegar and Joel Hanley forming a solid pair last season, playing Zayne Parekh with Weegar is the best way to get him accustomed to NHL hockey. The addition of Parekh likely means it will be Jake Bean who draws out of the lineup more often than not, while Daniil Miromanov may not get a spot at all.
Goalies
Dustin Wolf
Ivan Prosvetov
Things will look different in goal for the Flames this coming season, as Dan Vladar has moved on after signing a two-year deal with the Philadelphia Flyers. The Flames seemingly addressed that issue by signing Russian netminder Ivan Prosvetov, who starred in the KHL last season with CSKA Moscow.
While Prosvetov seemingly has the upper hand, Devin Cooley has an opportunity to earn himself a spot behind Dustin Wolf should he have a strong training camp. The 28-year-old posted a 2.94 GAA along with a .905 SV% in 46 appearances with the Calgary Wranglers last season.
