As was expected to be the case in recent weeks, Dan Vladar’s time with the Calgary Flames has officially come to an end.
The Flames were interested in bringing back the 27-year-old netminder, though it was reported that he was looking to test free agency in hopes of finding a bigger role. He seems to have done that, as it was announced this morning that he’s agreed to a two-year deal with the Philadelphia Flyers that will carry a cap hit of $3.35 million.

Vladar joined the Flames ahead of the 2021-22 season after being acquired from the Boston Bruins in exchange for a third-round pick. He wound up serving as the Flames’ back up for four seasons, three behind Jacob Markstrom and the fourth and final under Dustin Wolf. In a combined 100 games in a Flames sweater, he posted a 2.97 GAA along with a .895 SV%.
This past season saw Vladar appear in a career-high 30 games. He put up a 2.80 GAA along with a .898 SV% and a 12-11-6 record. While a solid back up for the Flames, he knew the chance of becoming a starter in Calgary wasn’t possible given the incredible rookie season Wolf put together.
The opportunity to be a starter is much more likely in Philadelphia, as the only two NHL goalies they currently had signed were Ivan Fedotov and Samuel Ersson. It’s very possible the Flyers are bringing Vladar in with the intention of having him as their starting goalie for the 2025-26 season, and perhaps beyond.
