Calgary Flames close to signing free-agent goalie that starred in Russia last season

The Calgary Flames appear to have found their back up goalie to replace Dan Vladar.

Shortly after news broke that Vladar had signed with the Philadelphia Flyers, it was reported that the Flames had agreed to terms with Russian netminder Ivan Prosvetov.

The Flames had been linked to Prosvetov in recent weeks, making the news today rather unsurprising. Nonetheless, it is a very exciting addition, as the 26-year-old is coming off of a phenomenal 2024-25 season.

Suiting up for CSKA Moscow in the KHL, Prosvetov posted a 2.32 GAA along with a .920 SV% in 38 appearances.

Prosvetov may be a familiar name to some, as he does have some NHL experience. He’s suited up for 24 career games in the NHL, split between the Arizona Coyotes and Colorado Avalanche. His brief sample size wasn’t very successful with a 3.70 GAA and a .881 SV%, but getting to reset and regain his confidence back in Russia could be all he needs to turn things around.

Based on Prosvetov’s success this past season, it’s possible the Flames will have a very good goalie tandem heading into 2025-26. Prosvetov, of course, will play second fiddle to 24-year-old Dustin Wolf, who finished second in Calder Trophy voting recently after putting up a 2.64 GAA along with a .910 SV% and a 29-16-8 record in 53 games.

This is the second move the Flames have made today, as they also re-signed Joel Hanley to a two-year extension earlier this morning. Expect more moves from this front office in the coming hours and days as they have more than enough cap space to tweak their roster as they see necessary.
