The Calgary Flames showcased some new lines on the first day of training camp as they prepare for the 2025-26 season.
The Flames had three separate groups hit the ice in different time slots today, with the first two groups featuring their veteran players.
The first group had a few interesting line combinations that we could very well see head coach Ryan Huska go with early on this coming season. Here’s a look at the combinations based on the skates from Thursday:
Huberdeau – Kadri – Coronato
Zary – Backlund – Coleman
Farabee – Frost – Sharangovich
Lomberg – Pospisil – Klapka
Bahl – Andersson
Hanley – Weegar
Bean/Parekh – Pachal
Dustin Wolf
Devin Cooley
The big standout was that Matt Coronato was skating on the top line with Nazem Kadri and Jonathan Huberdeau. The 22-year-old, who scored 24 goals last season, was often skating on a line alongside Blake Coleman and Mikael Backlund. Instead, they were put with the newly extended Connor Zary.
Another interesting reveal was that Martin Pospisil was skating down the middle. The 25-year-old bounced around between centre and wing last season, though this early update suggests he may be used primarily down the middle in 2025-26.
Huska also elected to have last season’s newcomers, Morgan Frost and Joel Farabee, together, perhaps sensing that the former Philadelphia Flyers may have some chemistry.

There were no real big surprises on the back end, as Rasmus Andersson and Kevin Bahl are likely to be partners once again to kick off the season, as are MacKenzie Weegar and Joel Hanley. The third pairing is where things get interesting, as Zayne Parekh is vying for a spot on the opening night roster, while others, such as Daniil Miromanov and Ilya Solovyov, are in the mix.
These line combinations are subject to change throughout training camp and into exhibition play, but are a good indicator as to what fans can expect to see come the Flames’ season opener versus the Edmonton Oilers on Oct. 8.
