Conroy gives definitive answer on Dube's future with Calgary Flames

It was never a likely scenario, but any chances of the Calgary Flames bringing back Dillon Dube were shut down on Wednesday afternoon.

Dube, who logged 327 games with the Flames over the course of six seasons, took a leave of absence from the organization partway through the 2023-24 campaign. Not long after, it was confirmed that he, Michael McLeod, Carter Hart, Alex Formenton, and Cal Foote were charged with sexual assault stemming from an incident in 2018.

All five players have since been acquitted. The NHL has announced that it will be able to sign contracts as soon as Oct. 15 but will remain suspended until Dec. 1.

With Dube being acquitted, there has been talk about him making a return to the NHL. If that does happen, it doesn’t sound as though the opportunity will come with the Flames.

“At this point, no,” Conroy said when asked if there was any interest. “I think Dillon probably just needs a fresh start.”

Dube had struggled prior to stepping away from the Flames, having scored just three goals and seven points through 43 games in 2023-24. The 2022-23 campaign, however, saw him score 18 goals for the second time in his career, while also establishing a new career high in points with 45.

Though he hasn’t played in the NHL since the 2023-24 season, Dube did suit up in 2024-25, logging 42 games with the KHL’s Minsk Dynamo, where he scored four goals and 11 points. He also suited up for four additional playoff outings, where he was held pointless.
