Calgary Flames release great injury update on Martin Pospisil

Martin Pospisil appears to be inching his way towards a return to the Calgary Flames lineup.

Pospisil has yet to play this season after suffering an upper-body injury during the preseason. Though the Flames haven’t confirmed exactly what he’s dealing with, the 26-year-old forward has dealt with concussion issues in the past.

Updates on Pospisil have been minimal this season, but that changed on Tuesday morning, as the Flames announced that he has been loaned to the Calgary Wranglers on a conditioning stint.

Pospisil, who became a regular in the Flames lineup early in the 2023-24 season, has established himself as a physical presence who often gets under opponents’ skin. His speed and forechecking ability have been greatly missed through the first half of the 2025-26 campaign.

Though not a star talent in terms of offensive abilities, the Flames, who have struggled to score this season, have also missed Pospisil’s secondary-scoring touch. Though he managed just four goals in 2024-25, he put up a solid eight goals and 24 points in 63 outings as a rookie in 2023-24.

It’s unclear as to how long it may take Pospisil to get up to speed, but, assuming there are no setbacks, this indicates that he will play games for the Flames this season. It’s also worth noting that he was one of the first six players named to Slovakia’s Olympic roster over the summer, and could potentially still head to Italy to suit up should he be deemed healthy.

Prior to the 2025-26 season getting underway, Pospisil agreed to a three-year, $7.5 million extension with the Flames. That deal will kick in at the start of the 2026-27 campaign.
