Calgary Flames are aggressively shopping Rasmus Andersson: report

It sounds as though the Calgary Flames will be trading Rasmus Andersson in the very near future.

Andersson, who is a pending UFA, has been on the trade block all season, though the Flames haven’t rushed to get anything done. While the two sides have reportedly had discussions on an extension, it sounds as though they are far apart on a deal.

The expectation has always been that the Flames, who are in a rebuilding stage, would trade Andersson at or ahead of the March 6 deadline. Based on a new report, it sounds as though a move could be coming soon.

“It does seem like Calgary is getting a little bit more aggressive in trying to do something,” Elliotte Friedman said on the latest 32 Thoughts podcast. “I think it sounds like there’s a desire for them to do it before the Olympics, and teams know that.

“There are times it seems more active than other times, and one of those times is now.”

Andersson is having a phenomenal bounce-back season for the Flames. The 29-year-old has already found the back of the net nine times, while his 28 points are second amongst all Flames skaters.

Not only is Anderson the best defenceman believed to be available, but he also carries a team-friendly cap hit of just $4.55 million. He’s also a right shot, which adds even more value in any potential trade.

While Andersson feels like a guarantee to be moved, he isn’t the only Flame being subjected to trade speculation. There have also been rumours swirling around both Blake Coleman and Nazem Kadri, though the Flames don’t necessarily need to move either, as both have term remaining on their respective deals.
