Calgary Flames fans are getting a blast from the past for the final season at the Scotiabank Saddledome.

The Flames unveiled their 2004-era jerseys Tuesday night during the first intermission of their preseason game against the Vancouver Canucks, bringing back one of the most recognizable looks in franchise history.

The red jerseys feature the iconic black Flaming C on the front, along with the Blasty logo on the shoulders and the distinctive black, white and yellow striping from the early 2000s.

The jerseys were worn by the Flames from 2003 to 2007 and, most notably, were the sweaters worn during Calgary’s memorable run to Game 7 of the 2004 Stanley Cup Final.

The reaction from Flames fans was predictably strong, with plenty taking to social media to celebrate the return of a jersey that carries plenty of nostalgia.

“Best jersey ever!” one fan wrote.

“Lowkey the best Flames jersey,” another added.

However, there was one small complaint some had when it comes to the modern version.

While the jersey itself closely replicates the 2004 design, the Flames’ current jersey sponsor remains on the front, prompting some fans to complain that the Play Alberta patch takes away from the throwback look.

“Get that horrendous ad off the jersey. Just don’t hit the same as the OG,” one fan wrote.

Still, the return of the jersey gives Calgary fans four chances to see the iconic look back on the ice.

And the Flames have found a fitting way to bring it back.

Calgary will wear the jerseys four times during the 2026-27 regular season, with each game coming against a team the Flames faced during their 2004 playoff run.

The first will come on Oct. 24 against the Detroit Red Wings, followed by a Dec. 26 matchup with the Vancouver Canucks.

The Flames will then wear the jerseys against the San Jose Sharks on Dec. 29 before bringing them out one final time against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Jan. 9.

Those four teams represented every opponent Calgary faced during its 2004 postseason run. Calgary defeated Vancouver, Detroit, and San Jose before falling to Tampa Bay in seven games in the Stanley Cup Final.

The throwback jerseys are also particularly fitting given that 2026-27 marks the Flames’ final season at the Saddledome.

After 43 years in the iconic building, the Flames are scheduled to move into the new Scotia Place for the 2027-28 season.

With the Flames saying goodbye to the Saddledome after the season, the return of the 2004 jerseys gives fans another chance to relive one of the most memorable eras in franchise history.
