The Rasmus Andersson trade has officially been settled after the Stanley Cup Final came to an end on Sunday night.
With the Vegas Golden Knights losing in the Stanley Cup Final to the Carolina Hurricanes, the Calgary Flames now know exactly which draft picks they will receive from the trade.
The full trade was made before this year’s deadline, and saw Andersson head to Vegas, while the Flames acquired defenceman Zach Whitecloud, prospect Abram Wiebe, a 2027 first-round pick, and a conditional 2028 second-round pick.
The condition on the second-round pick was that it would upgrade to a 2028 first-round pick if the Golden Knights won the Stanley Cup this season. With Vegas losing, that condition was not met, meaning it will remain a 2028 second-rounder.
Sportsnet’s Pat Steinberg confirmed the pick conditions on Monday morning.
A condition in Calgary’s Rasmus Andersson trade with Vegas is now settled.
Conditional 2028 second-round pick won’t upgrade to a first, as Vegas didn’t win the Stanley Cup this year.
It’s Andersson for a 2027 first (top ten protected), 2028 second, Whitecloud and Wiebe. #Flames

It’s not the most ideal scenario for a Flames team that was hoping to add another first-round pick to their arsenal.
Had the Golden Knights won the Stanley Cup, it would have given Calgary a total of three first-round picks in the 2028 draft after they had acquired another from the Colorado Avalanche for Nazem Kadri.
The Flames have a total of 11 draft picks set for this upcoming 2026 draft, including picks #6 and #30 in the first round. The latter of those picks also comes from Vegas, stemming from the 2024 trade that saw the Flames send Noah Hanifin to the Golden Knights.
They will then step up for an additional four selections in the second round, three of which were acquired from the Utah Mammoth in the MacKenzie Weegar trade this past season as well.
The rebuild is fully underway for Craig Conroy and the Flames, and the hope was that they could finesse yet another first-round pick out of Sin City.
