The City of Calgary has revealed several exciting updates regarding construction on Scotia Place.
The soon-to-be home of the Calgary Flames is continuing to progress thanks to the 800+ construction members on site every day.
Work is continuing to be done on the roof, as well as the exterior and interior of the building. Thanks to that great work, fans who have driven past the construction site as of late have a pretty good idea as to what the building will look like from the outside.

The roof deck is now officially one-third of the way complete, with the installation of metal decking across key areas of the building. The trellis structure is also complete on the southwest rooftop restaurant patio.
That’s far from the only new updates.
The metal deck has been installed for the food hall, which is aimed to offer fans “a diverse selection of food ā from sweet to savoury treats.” Meanwhile, exterior drywall has been installed on the west side and northwest corner of the building.
The 1,000-seat community arena is coming along nicely as well, with steel installation progressing at the main entrance of the building. Once Scotia Place is ready to go, the ice at the Esso Community Arena can be rented out for events.
The work for construction crews doesn’t just involve the building, either.
As shown in the video above, crews have also been tasked with raising 14 Ave SE by 6.5 feet. The job, which is being done to improve site access, isn’t complete, but it is one of several ongoing tasks.
Once complete, Scotia Place is expected to have a capacity of 18,400 for hockey games, and can open it up to 20,000 for concerts and other live events.
The building is expected to be ready to go for the 2027-28 NHL season.
