The Duke Robillard Acoustic Trio

What: Duke Robillard comes to Calgary with his acoustic trio, performing acoustic takes on songs spanning his illustrious 50-year career in blues, including several selections from The Acoustic Blues & Roots of Duke Robillard, which won the 2016 Blues Music Awards Acoustic Blues Album of the Year. Duke also has two Grammy nominations and has performed alongside Bob Dylan, Jimmy Witherspoon, and Tom Waits, just to name a few.

What: Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra’s first Wolfgang Patron Programme performance of  2019 will be a concert titled: Music of the Movies: Avengers, Frozen, Titanic, and more. Members of the program will be able to meet, greet, and converse over cocktails as well as hear some of their favourite movie soundtracks performed live.

Heroes and Villains

Ice Magic Festival Banff 2019

What: The Ice Magic Festival hosts 10 teams of two in a competition to create the most stunningly shiny work of frozen art. The artwork will then be on display until the end of the festival on January 27, accompanied by live DJs and nighttime lighting displays. Snowshoeing, skiing, ice skating, and sleigh riding could also fill your days – while you aren’t sitting cozily by the fire, that is – as Banff is home to many great wintertime activities.

25th Annual PSAC STARS & Spurs Gala

Penguin Walk at the Calgary Zoo

What: 2019 marks the seventh year of the Calgary Zoo Penguin Walk. The king penguin colony heads out on zoo grounds for a daily enrichment walk in the winter months and visitors get to experience the fun. This program allows visitors to get an up-close look at the group of King Penguins as they explore, exercise, and waddle their way through the zoo. This is a free-choice activity for the penguins, and is subject to weather conditions.
