Canmore Winter Carnival

What: Winter in the Rocky Mountains is truly magical and the Town of Canmore invites you to come celebrate this beautiful season with them. For two weeks there will be a variety of snowy, family friendly indoor and outdoor events happening throughout the town, such as Ice Carving Competitions, Log Sawing Competitions, a pooch parade, Snowy Owl Kid n Mutt Races and more.

What’s up with Bow Habitat Station

What: Explore Alberta’s wildlife and natural spaces on the first Friday of the month. Visit investigation stations in the Discovery Centre to discover the wildlife that make their home right here in Calgary! Join in a large group activity at 10:30 am, 11:30 am, 1:30 pm or 2:30 pm to discover how wildlife has adapted to city life with special guests from Alberta Parks. Calgary Wildlife Rehabilitation Society will be hosting an investigation station all about some furry and feathered friends you might find in our city. Hands on activities are designed for learners ages 2 and up.

Nikka Yuko Winter Lights Festival

What: Throughout the months of December, January, and February, Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden comes alight with intricately places bulbs, casting a new glow on the already-astounding sights. Over 115,000 lights have been set up in a display that is sure to delight.

GLOW – Downtown Winter Light Festival

What: Built in 1988 for the Olympic Winter Games, Olympic Plaza has the only refrigerated outdoor ice surface in the city. You can rent skates down at the plaza if you don’t have a pair of your own. Helmets are strongly encouraged.

Penguin Walk at the Calgary Zoo

What: 2019 marks the 7th year of the Calgary Zoo Penguin Walk. The king penguin colony heads out on zoo grounds for a daily enrichment walk in the winter months and visitors get to experience the fun. This program allows visitors to get an up close look at the group of King Penguins as they explore, exercise, and waddle their way through the zoo. This is a free-choice activity for the penguins, and is subject to weather conditions.

Brewster Banff Gondola

Kananaskis After Dark: Stargazing and Photography Tour

What: Join Kananaskis’ skilled guide on a star and moonlit hike through the Kananaskis forest. In an open meadow by the river, the group will pause to relax and take in the night sky; guests are welcome to bring a camera and tripod to try out some astrophotography or to just hang out with the group, peek through the telescope and chat about astronomy.

What: Mystery Town Tours operates just like the escape rooms that we all know and love (though sometimes really, really hate), but the twist is that you’re not actually trying to escape anything. You’ll actually be following clues throughout the town, receiving information via phone, and replying with your answers to the mysteries presented throughout the day. And it could be a full day, at that, as tours can range from 90 minutes to a full afternoon of adventuring around the town.

What: Locked Library is an event that will see teams of contestants entering New Central Library on February 1, trying to escape the newly-opened building within the allotted time. The event is expected to last up to two hours and will run from 7:30 to 9:30 pm — giving attendees a chance to experience the architecturally stunning building after hours. All proceeds go towards supporting the Calgary Public Library.

Doc Soup: All The Wild Horses

What: Doc Soup Calgary is a monthly feature-length documentary series presented in partnership with the Calgary International Film Festival and Hot Docs. All The Wild Horses follows international riders from around the world as they compete in the Mongol Derby in Mongolia, the longest and toughest horse race on the planet. In this race across 700 miles of Mongolian steppe the riders are on their own, navigating from horse station to horse station where they change horses every 30 miles.

Aziz Ansari

What: Comedian, actor, writer, producer, and director, Aziz Ansari is coming to Calgary for his latest North American Tour, “Road to Nowhere.” Ansari began his career in the beloved television series, NBC’s Parks and Recreation. He’s also appeared in a number of comedies, including This is the End, Funny People, and Get Him To The Greek. Most recently, the comedy heavyweight starred, wrote, and directed the Netflix comedy, Master of None.

Free Brewery Tours at Red Bison Brewery

What: The tour starts off with an explanation of Red Bison’s name and why founder Steve started the brewery. Attendees will then see the homebrew system Steve used to brew beer on the balcony of his downtown Calgary condo, and talk about malt and how each of the flavours impact our recipes. After this, it’s a walk through our process for brew day and the fermentation process. Once the tour is complete, guests will be able to buy flights to try out beer and the kitchen is also open.
