Driver clocked going 69 km/h over speed limit in Calgary may see $1,200 fine
A Calgary driver is facing court after police say a BMW was clocked travelling 69 km/h over the posted speed limit in the city’s northeast over the weekend.
According to the Calgary Police Service (CPS), officers stopped the speeding vehicle heading eastbound on 96th Avenue NE at around 6 p.m. on Aug. 9.
Officers say the vehicle was travelling at 129 km/h in a 60 km/h zone. The driver has been issued a court summons and could face a $1,200 fine and a 30-day licence suspension.
The driver was also fined $825 for careless driving and another $105 for illegally tinted windows.

In a social media post, CPS reminded drivers to slow down and follow posted speed limits, noting that these limits are in place to keep everyone safe on Calgary roads.
This isn’t the only case of excessive speeding reported in Alberta in recent days.
Daily Hive reached out to Strathcona County regarding a driver who was clocked travelling 112 km/h over the speed limit and was told by RCMP and Enforcement Services that on Sunday, Aug. 9, a Strathcona County Peace Officer intercepted a Ford Mustang travelling 212 km/h southbound on Highway 216, which is a posted 100 km/h zone, near the Sherwood Park Freeway.
The driver was issued a fine of $421 for expired registration and a mandatory court appearance for excessive speed.
