This Texas BBQ spot just outside of Calgary is next-level epic (PHOTOS)

Take every amazing BBQ experience you’ve had and roll it into one, that’s basically what you’ll get at Big Sky BBQ Pit in Okotoks, a town located around 40 minutes from downtown Calgary.

If you’ve driven from Okotoks to Calgary, you’ve likely seen this huge building on the side of Highway 2 – you can’t miss its massive patio (the biggest in Western Canada), and huge letters spelling out the name of the authentic Texas-style BBQ joint.

Besides offering tons of TVs, merch, good Caesars, and great service, Big Sky has a massive menu of eats that are all made the old school BBQ way, AKA no fryers, freezers, or grills.

Big Sky’s offerings are all made from scratch and all the meat is Alberta-grown.

But really, let’s get into this menu.

There are the stellar sides: cornbread, coleslaw, jalapeño bacon mac and cheese, and the signature smoked beans to name a few.

Let’s not forget about some of the drool-worthy starters like ‘Hogs Spuds’ made from potatoes wrapped and smoked in bacon, with drizzled honey and sour cream, the smoked pulled pork nachos, and the ‘Texas Twinkies,’ a trio of jalapeño peppers stuffed with brisket and cream cheese, wrapped in bacon, and drizzled with caramel.

These offerings are the tip of the iceberg, the full-on mains and spreads of meat here are enough to put you into a food coma just from looking at them… but of course, we ate them.

Keep it simple with one of the combo orders if you’re in a group. The platters offer different combos of meats like brisket, sausage, pulled pork, beef ribs, and the aforementioned sides too.

You can also opt for one of the smoked sandwiches up for order, which includes chopped brisket, Texas pulled pork, the ‘Chicken Clucker,’ and a homemade sausage variety.

There’s also housemade sauces and desserts if you can possibly fit any more into your stomachs after attempting these protein-packed dishes from Big Sky.

This joint is the kind of place you’ll need to – and want to – return to again and again, mostly because you can’t physically try everything in once sitting (believe me, we tried) but also because the vibe is right and the food is simply epic.
