If you’re planning on heading to the Rockies this weekend, you might want to pack more than just some hiking boots; a snowsuit could come in handy.
Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) has issued a snowfall warning for Alberta’s mountain regions, with heavy, wet snow expected in Banff and near Lake Louise starting Friday evening and lasting through Saturday night.
Between 10 to 15 centimetres of snow could accumulate over the next 24 hours.
“Travel will likely be challenging. Roads and walkways will likely be difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow,” the report warned.
So for those planning a mountain getaway, make sure to plan ahead and drive carefully. They advise travellers to allow extra time, keep headlights on, slow down, and maintain a safe following distance.
