Glamorous Calgary event ready to help Special Olympic athletes shine
A Calgary organization dedicated to supporting Special Olympics athletes across Canada is hosting a fall gala next week, and it promises to be an evening of glamour, giving, and good times
The motionball Calgary Gala is happening on Saturday, Nov. 8, at its new venue, The Ampersand.
The unforgettable event welcomes over 350 guests and Special Olympic athletes for delicious food and drinks, live entertainment, a silent auction, and more.
This year’s theme is Radiant in Red, so wear your finest red looks to dance the night away. All funds raised are going to support the important work of Special Olympics Alberta and the Special Olympics Canada Foundation.

“Motionball’s annual Calgary Gala is always one of the most anticipated nights of the year,” said Paul Etherington, co-founder of motionball. “We’re thrilled to once again bring the city’s young professionals together for an evening filled with incredible energy and entertainment, all in support of Special Olympics Alberta and Special Olympics Foundation Canada.
“What makes the gala truly special is the opportunity to connect directly with the athletes whose lives we’re helping to impact. We can’t wait to celebrate them during this unforgettable night.”
Motionball
Motionball is a national non-profit that works to empower young Canadians to be leaders in their communities while raising money and awareness for Special Olympics at integrated sporting and social events.
“We believe that the next generation of Canadians, today’s students and young professionals, are the future of the Special Olympics movement – with the power to make a meaningful difference for generations to come,” motionball states online.
There are two signature motionball events in the city each year: the Marathon of Sport and the Calgary Gala.
Motionball
Guests at the 2025 motionball Calgary Gala, which is presented by Strathcona Resources on Saturday, Nov. 8, will be treated to late-night bites and drinks, specialty cocktail bars, and a silent auction with over 40 items.
Dress up in your most glamorous look to take a picture in the photobooths.
Then hit the dance floor and enjoy performances by Matt Blais, The Morning Girls and The Mic Socks, Joe Swll, and Amy Hef.
You’ll also have the opportunity to meet some of the amazing Special Olympics athletes that motionball supports.
