Amazon Canada has introduced a low monthly rate for students to use its Prime services.

According to Amazon, it is rolling out a month-to-month membership option for students at $3.99, an alternative to the existing one-time annual membership payment of $39. (Non-student Prime membership is currently $79 per year.)

Along with the monthly offer, students can now stream TV shows and movies on Amazon Prime Video as part of a no-cost six-month trial.

Applicable to students of two- and four-year schools, all you need is your school email address to sign up.

Prime Student will also offer the same unlimited free two-day and one-day shipping offers (as per regular Prime membership). For those in Toronto or Vancouver, free same-day delivery is also available on eligible orders.

“We are excited to see Prime Student resonate so well with students in Canada and are pleased to offer another flexible, monthly option at a low price of $3.99 per month,” said Mike Strauch, Country Manager for Amazon Canada. “With Prime Video now included in their six-month trial, student members can start enjoying award-winning content from Amazon right away.”

The e-commerce giant also continues to widen its footprint in Canada by expanding its tech hub with the opening of a new downtown Toronto office, which will provide hundreds of new tech jobs in the city.

Located in Scotia Plaza, the sprawling 113,000-sq-ft office will be home to 600 jobs in fields including software development, machine learning, cloud computing, digital advertising, and artificial intelligence.
