Alberta is a gorgeous province with some pretty nice spots to spend your golden years, including one town that was just named among the best towns to retire in.
World Atlas, one of the largest publishing resources in geography, released a list of nine of the best small towns in Alberta to retire in, and Sylvan Lake made the cut.
“Retirees flock here for its unbeatable lake access, all while being within driving distance to Edmonton,” reads the list.
The lake itself is a major draw, perfect for relaxing, boating, or soaking up the sun in the warmer months. It has even been named one of the best boating towns in Canada.

For retirees, the town has the Sylvan Lake Community Health Centre for urgent care and routine outpatient care, and the NexSource Centre, where you can find indoor walking tracks and fitness programs to keep active during the winter.
World Atlas also points to Sylvan Lake Park being one of the town’s major attractions. Featuring a wide public beach and a wooden boardwalk that stretches along the water, it’s the perfect place for a nice leisurely stroll while enjoying everything lakeside living has to offer.
