There’s nothing quite like a day spent on the water, and for boaters seeking the perfect spot, an Alberta town was just named one of Canada’s best boating towns in 2026.

BoatBooker compiled a list of the country’s best boating towns, and Sylvan Lake earned a spot among them.

“Sylvan Lake is a popular warm-weather escape built around a single, inviting lake. Summer brings a steady flow of visitors drawn to the water and relaxed atmosphere.”

Located around 25 kilometres west of Red Deer, Sylvan Lake is easy to reach for a weekend getaway or even a day trip. According to its website, the town sees over 750,000 visitors each year.

There is no shortage of ways to spend your time on the water at Sylvan Lake. From cruising on fishing boats, sailboats, and jet skis to wakeboarding, tubing, and kneeboarding, it’s easy to fill a full day with water-based fun and activities for all skill levels.

For a more relaxed pace, visitors can find plenty of boat tours and activities, like guided fishing tours, sunset cruises, sailing excursions, and rental equipment.

While it offers some pretty amazing opportunities for boating, you can also enjoy its sandy beaches, long walking trails, and parks that are perfect for playing and picnics.

The town itself is full of small shops, cafes, and restaurants, offering plenty to do and explore after a day on the water.

Sylvan Lake was the only Alberta spot to make the list of best boating towns. Some other Canadian destinations included Victoria and Kelowna, B.C., and Kingston, Ont.
