Alberta continues to see high numbers of new coronavirus cases

Alberta reported 127 new coronavirus cases Friday, adding another day this week with new case numbers well over 100.

The province announced 133 new cases on Thursday, 113 on Wednesday, 80 on Tuesday, and an average of 101 cases per day last weekend.

Alberta’s coronavirus death toll has now reached 196, as one more person died of their infection.

The past 24 hours brought Alberta’s coronavirus active case count to 1,386.

Right now there are 86 people in Alberta’s hospitals with coronavirus infections, and 17 of them are in the ICU.

Since the pandemic began, the province has seen 10,843 cases.

More than 8,000 coronavirus tests were completed on July 30, meaning Alberta has now administered about 685,000 tests on more than 571,000 people since March.

The Calgary health region leads the province in active cases with 599 people currently infected. The Edmonton zone follows with 272 active infections. The Central zone has 254 active infections, the South zone has 147, and the North zone has 107.
