New ranking pins Alberta as one of the angriest provinces in Canada

The latest Rage Index by Pollara was just released, and Alberta ranked as one of the angriest provinces in Canada.

Before you get too heated, let’s quickly go over what exactly a Rage Index is.

Unless you’ve been avoiding the internet for the last decade or so, you likely know that we live in a time commentators have called “an era of outrage, negativity, and anger.” To study this, Pollara created the Rage Index, which is a tracking study to measure the mood of Canadians about their governments, the economy, and current events.

Pollara has been tracking core indicators, as well as news flashpoints, to analyze Canadians’ moods over time within key demographic, regional, and political segments.

The latest online survey of 3,400 adult (18+) Canadians collected data between May 16 and May 20, 2025. Respondents were recruited from multiple research panels, and results were tracked against the last wave conducted in November 2024.

The Rage Index looked at six major topics:

  • The latest stories in the news
  • The Canadian economy
  • The types of changes happening in Canada
  • The provincial government
  • Your own personal financial situation
  • The federal government

Here’s how Canadians are feeling after the results of the recent federal election, along with the situation south of the border.

Key Findings

The good news is that the Rage Index took a dip compared to the last wave. An average of 46 per cent of Canadians reported being annoyed or angry about the six topics in the Rage Index, a decrease of 8 points since November of last year.

When the data was broken down by province, it revealed that Alberta and Saskatchewan were the two angriest provinces in Canada, reporting the most negative sentiment towards both federal and provincial governments.

In general, it seems that Canadians were less angry this year, especially towards the federal government, where anger dropped by 18 points. Findings also demonstrated less frustration with provincial governments, the types of changes happening in the country, and recent news stories.

So, what are Canadians angry about? If your thoughts drifted south, then you’re on the right track.

According to the Rage Index, nearly eight out of ten Canadians, a whopping 78 per cent, feel angry towards President Trump. In contrast, Canadians feel more positive than negative about the recent federal election and the new Cabinet. This could suggest that anger towards President Trump has acted as a unifying factor in Canada.

That’s not to say that everything is peachy. Findings show that economically driven anger remains, with upticks in the percentage of Canadians angry about their personal finances (+2) and the economy (+1).
