Vancouver International Airport leads Canada for passenger satisfaction among large airports

Vancouver International Airport (YVR) received high praise in a new ranking looking at passenger satisfaction.

The ranking is based on J.D. Power’s analysis of passenger satisfaction at airports across North America.

“While the annual growth rate in passenger volume seems to be levelling off, we’re still seeing record numbers of travellers pass through the nation’s airports, and, for the most part, they are enjoying the experience,” the ranking states.

“The 2025 study is based on 30,439 completed surveys from U.S. or Canadian residents who travelled through at least one U.S. or Canadian airport and covers both departure and arrival experiences (including connecting airports) during the past 30 days.”

Many airports across North America are experiencing an increase in customer satisfaction, and J.D. Power attributes this to capital improvement projects, which also applies to YVR, which has undergone many improvements in recent years.

“One of the bigger drivers of this year’s increase in passenger satisfaction is food, beverage and retail programs,” the study suggests. YVR has also made several improvements to its food offerings for passengers moving through the airport in recent years.

Under the heading of overall customer satisfaction at ‘mega airports,’ Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport was on top, with no Canadian airports qualifying as mega airports.

The large airport section of the ranking mentions a couple of Canadian airports, with Vancouver International Airport ranking above its Canadian counterpart, scoring 671. The average score is 644.

Vancouver is ranked eighth for customer satisfaction among large airports, beaten out by Nashville, Portland, Raleigh-Durham, Kansas City, Dallas Love Field, Tampa International Airport, and John Wayne Airport, which rank at the very top.

Earlier this year, YVR was also ranked as the 13th best airport in the entire world by Skytrax.

Calgary International Airport was the only other Canadian airport mentioned among large airports for customer satisfaction but it fell below the average, with a score of 610.

More details about the ranking and the findings related to other North American airports, can be found on the J.D. Power website.
