Calgary International Airport lands low for passenger satisfaction

Sep 17 2025, 5:06 pm

J.D. Power just released its 2025 North American airport passenger satisfaction study, and the Calgary International Airport landed on the low end for its size.Ā

The study reveals that overall passenger satisfaction has increased across North America, primarily driven by improvements in food, beverage, and retail options, as well as the ease of travel through airports.Ā

Calgary International Airport ranked 25th overall in the large airports category, coming in with a score of 610 out of 1,000 and the fourth-lowest in the report.Ā

Calgary’s score rose from 599 last year, but the airport slipped three spots in the rankings, dropping from 22nd to 25th this year.Ā

Out of the three Canadian airports ranked on the large airports list, Calgary landed in the middle. Vancouver International Airport took spot number eight with a score of 671, and Montreal’s Pierre Elliott Trudeau Airport landed in 27th with a score of 571.

John Wayne Airport in Orange County took the top spot among large airports for the second year in a row with a score of 730, followed by Tampa International Airport (709) in second, and Dallas Love Field (705) in third.

The North America Airport Satisfaction study is now in its 20th year. It measures passenger satisfaction using seven core dimensions: ease of travel through the airport, level of trust in the airport, terminal facilities, airport staff, departure and arrival experiences, food, beverage, and retail services, and overall airport experience.Ā

ā€œA big part of this recent increase in passenger satisfaction is due to recently completed improvements in many airport facilities themselves. A few big capital improvement projects have now been completed and many more are underway or about to break ground,ā€Ā  said Michael Taylor, the managing director of travel, hospitality and retail at J.D. Power, in a news release.

ā€œA decades-long trend of bringing unique, local flavour to the passenger experience has positively impacted the airport experience with these local touches having a major influence on passenger satisfaction.ā€
