Early morning YVR bomb threat prompts traffic tower evacuation

Flights are operating normally at Vancouver International Airport (YVR) after an early morning bomb threat prompted an RCMP response.
According to Richmond RCMP, the force received a report of a “threat” at the YVR Nav Canada Air Traffic Control Tower.
“The tower was subsequently evacuated. With the assistance of the Integrated Police Dog Services (IPDS), a thorough search was conducted and no threats were located,” RCMP said.
YVR issued a statement earlier this morning on social media, saying that flights were operating normally. It pointed out that other Canadian airports were also being affected by security concerns. According to YVR’s flight status page, this appears to still be the case, with a normal number of delays for departing and arriving flights. Still, YVR is urging folks to check the website just in case.
“Safety and security remains our top priority and a thorough threat assessment was conducted.”

“The RCMP and YVR take threats of this nature very seriously,” said Corporal Melissa Lui, Media Relations Officer of the Richmond RCMP, in a statement. “After the initial investigation, investigators determined this to be a false report and that there is no credible threat to public safety.”
The RCMP is asking members of the public who may have information about the YVR bomb threat to contact it at 604-278-1212, quoting file number 2025-21021, or emailing Richmond_Tips@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
The scare comes just days after hundreds of flights were delayed at YVR due to resource constraints at Nav Canada. The news also comes less than a week after an explosive device went off at local Bowinn Ma’s office in North Vancouver.
