Hundreds of flights delayed in and out of Vancouver International Airport

If youâre flying in or out of Vancouver International Airport (YVR) today, donât be surprised if your flight is delayed.
Around 210 flights have been affected so far due to a shortage of air traffic control staff.
YVR posted a public advisory Saturday afternoon, warning travellers about ongoing disruptions caused by “resource constraints” at the countryâs air traffic control provider.
NAV CANADA, the national organization that oversees aircraft movement in Canadian airspace, confirmed the issue on X, stating:
“Delays affecting flights in YVR due to NAV CANADA resource constraints. Our team is moving aircraft safely, and as quickly as possible.”
Delays affecting flights in YVR due to NAV CANADA resource constraints. Our team is moving aircraft safely, and as quickly as possible. Passengers: check the status of your flight with your airline. We regret any impacts to airlines and their passengers.

The delays come just as Vancouver International Airport is bracing for its busiest summer on record, with more than 6.7 million passengers expected between June 15 and Sept. 2.
Daily Hive reports that YVR is forecasting up to 91,000 passengers on peak travel days.
What this means for travellers
- Many flights are delayed in and out of Vancouver, including Air Canada, WestJet, United, and Alaska Airlines routes
- Several regional flights have also been cancelled
- Some delays are over two hours long, and connecting flights may also be affected
What you should do
- Check your flight status directly with your airline before leaving for the airport
- Contact your airline for rebooking options if your flight is impacted
- Look for YVR Guest Experience team members at information counters in the terminal, they can help you get in touch with your airline
“We recognize the inconvenience that can be caused by changes to flight schedules,” YVR said in a statement.
NAV CANADA has not confirmed when operations will return to normal, but theyâre sharing updates via navcanada.ca and @navcanadaops on X.
Note: This is a developing story. Daily Hive has reached out to NAV Canada and YVR and is awaiting response.
