Vancouver police are sharing details about a sexual assault and robbery that took place in a changing room near Stanley Park at Second Beach on Monday.
Police officers responded just before 11 a.m. on Monday after a witness observed a suspicious man enter the woman’s changing room near Second Beach pool. When officers arrived on the scene, they discovered a woman in her 40s who had been violently assaulted and robbed.
Officers were able to locate the suspect near Second Beach and take him into custody.
“The victim received treatment at hospital,” VPD said.
Police have revealed the suspect as 35-year-old Hartley Ronald Duckhorn. For his recent alleged crimes, Duckhorn is charged with the following:
- Assault by choking
- Unlawful confinement
- Sexual assault with a weapon
- Robbery
- Uttering threat to cause death or bodily harm
According to court records, someone with the same name is known to police with charges dating back to 2010 and as recently as 2019. Some of those 2019 charges include robbery and assault.
While Duckhorn is currently in custody, there’s a chance he won’t be for long, as police revealed that he is pending a bail hearing.
Over the past few weeks, there have been several stories related to violent attacks in Vancouver, with the majority of them being stranger attacks. One of them involved a man being hit in the face with a small axe. Another saw a shopper confronted by a knife-wielding man who jabbed the knife toward the victim’s face.
Just today, VPD shared another story about a senior who was the victim of an unprovoked attack.
