The Vancouver Police Department has revealed some shocking footage of a man having a knife “jabbed” towards his face in Gastown.
VPD says the incident took place last week, Friday, May 9, at around 3 p.m., when the 62-year-old victim was walking on Water Street.
The video, which is only 21 seconds long, shows the suspect walking down Water Street near Cambie wearing a black jacket and hat. The victim follows behind him, carrying a couple of shopping bags.
As the victim goes to overtake the suspect on the sidewalk, the suspect seems startled by the victim and turns to face him, quickly turning confrontational. The suspect then follows the victim closely for a second before pushing him from behind. The victim turns to face the suspect before we see the suspect slip a large knife out of his jacket sleeve, taking an aggressive posture.
Finally, the suspect wields the knife and makes a jabbing gesture towards the victim’s face.
The suspect backs away slowly before the video fades to black.

VPD Constable Tania Visintin said no one was hurt, and the victim reported the incident later that day.
The suspect is described as a 35- to 45-year-old man with a thin build. At the time, he was wearing dark pants, a dark jacket, and a baseball cap.
A motive is unclear as police do not believe the victim and the suspect knew each other.
Police are asking any witnesses or anyone who recognizes the suspect to call investigators at 604-717-4022.
This news comes a day after Vancouver Police shared some information about another troubling incident involving a stranger attack where the victim was hit in the face with a small axe.
