Police are investigating a traffic accident in Delta on the weekend that claimed the life of one woman and sent another to hospital with serious, but non life-threatening injuries.
According to Deas Island RCMP Traffic Services, the incident took place on Saturday night, around 10:20 pm, on Highway 17A, north of Ladner Trunk Road in Delta.
The two female occupants of a vehicle – which pulled off the road – had both exited their vehicle to look for an item in the trunk, when they were struck from behind by a white Jeep traveling north on Highway 17A.
The impact killed one of the occupants and sent the second to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The lone occupant of the Jeep remained on scene.
Police said alcohol is being considered as a contributing factor to the collision.
Deas Island Traffic Services and the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service are continuing to investigate this collision.

As the investigation is ongoing, police said no further information is being released at this point.
