Iconic North Vancouver sulphur pile gets spotlight in 'Wolverine' game

Gamers got a new extended look at Sony PlayStation’s upcoming Marvel’s Wolverine, and eagle-eyed locals spotted a North Shore landmark making a star appearance.
Marcus Smith, creative director of Marvel’s Wolverine, set the stage during the State of Play event on June 2, explaining that the titular hero is in a race against time to rescue a group of kidnapped mutants.
Though not explicitly stated, the action kicks off in North Vancouver with an epic sequence set at the iconic sulphur pile.

And the Lions Gate Bridge can clearly be seen in the background before the longtime X-Men member dives into action at the sulphur-filled industrial park.
Sulphur is a by-product of natural gas processing. According to the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority, all of the sulphur travelling through the port comes from northern Alberta.

It is then shipped to manufacturing regions across the globe, with China and Australia as the two biggest purchasers.
Local gamers shared their excitement in seeing the sulphur pile and the other landmarks online.
“Vancouver is playing itself in an entertainment property!? I guess if movies won’t do it…” exclaimed one person.
“This would be hell for Wolverine,” added another. “If you’ve even been in there, you’ll stink for 3 days after. The sulphur smell is so overpowering.”
“I mean, Wolverine is Canadian, and yellow is kinda his colour,” said another commenter.

Marvel’s Wolverine is being developed by the studio Insomniac, which was behind the popular Spider-Man games.
In the first trailer for the game released last fall, Wolverine is seen riding his motorcycle, with a highway sign referencing Squamish visible in the background.
In another portion of the trailer, it appears that Wolverine takes his motorcycle onto the Sea to Sky Highway.
You won’t have to wait much longer to take control of Weapon X, as the game is slated for release on the PS5 on September 15.
