Winterruption Lights Up Granville Island With Cultural & Foodie Events

Dec 19 2017, 5:32 pm

Granville Island is the place to be, February 14 to 16, as the city’s cultural hub hosts its 9th annual Winterruption, one of the city’s most unique and beloved winter festivals.

A music, food and arts extravaganza, Winterruption offers a chance to break up the winter doldrums with a celebration worthy of the West Coast. Visitors will get their fill of fun over the course of the three day fete. A happy bonus: the majority of Winterruption events are free of charge.

There’s a dizzying amount of events packed into a few short days, so here’s what I’m most looking forward to:

Drink

Meet Your Makers Tour: Spirits, Sake, and Hand Crafted Beer
Join award winning travel writer John Lee as he takes you on an educational tasting tour to meet the master brewers and distillers behind Granville Island’s favourite artisanal brands, including the newly opened Liberty Distillery.

Dance

Edible Canada House: Festival Under the Bridge
Featuring numerous Canadian inspired, mouth-watering food stations; Cheesy Perogies, Elk Chili, Alberta Beef Brisket & Maple Flapjacks to name a few, all paired with local beers from Granville Island Brewing, and of course Canadian wines! By the folks over at Edible Canada.

Play

Hockey Night at the Puck and Pickle Pub
It’s the gold medal game between Canada and Russia, and two talented actors portray all the pub-dwellers, including the die-hard fans, a couple of real hosers, and many more that will make you laugh out loud – whether you know a cross-check from a charge or not! Olympic hockey has never been more hilarious! Presented by The Vancouver Fringe Festival.

Find more information and complete listings on the Granville Island website. Don’t miss out!
