When your team is playing in a Game 7, everything stops.
That was the case for fans across Manitoba on Sunday as the Winnipeg Jets hosted the St. Louis Blues in Game 7 of the first round. People across the province were glued to the game, including some who had to ignore other responsibilities.
One beer league referee took a mid-game break from his officiating duties to watch the end of regulation. The Jets published a video on their social media that showed the referee watching Game 7 on his phone while the beer league game was playing around him.
The referee goes wild as the Jets tie the game with just three seconds left. He starts celebrating with all of the players on the bench who were also watching, all while the beer league game continues.
It was an epic reaction that any hockey fan who has seen their team pull off a big win can recognize.

The Jets went down 2-0 early in the game before rallying back to send Game 7 against the St. Louis Blues into overtime tied at three. The tying goal came with just two seconds left when Cole Perfetti got his second of the game. The Jets won the game in double overtime, eliminating the Blues in the process. Captain Adam Lowry came through with the clutch goal to help his team advance to the second round.
It’s the first time the Jets have moved past the first round since 2021. If they had lost Sunday’s Game 7, that would’ve marked three straight exits in the first round. That recent playoff heartbreak undoubtedly made this comeback sweeter for fans.
The Jets will now face the Dallas Stars in the second round. It should be a great series between two teams who are considered among the favourites to win the Stanley Cup.
