BC Hydro says nearly 20,000 customers in the Lower Mainland have been left without power after a windstorm swept through the region early Wednesday morning.
“A windstorm has caused a number of outages in the Lower Mainland, primarily in North Vancouver,” reads a statement from BC Hydro.

According to BC Hydro, in addition to North Vancouver, outages were also reported in West Vancouver, Burnaby, Coquitlam, Pitt Meadows, Maple Ridge, and Bowen Island due to the windstorm.

“Crews are currently working to restore power to the local substation which should restore the majority of the affected customers in that area,” said BC Hydro.
BC Hydro says it will continue to provide updates and provide individual restoration times as they become available this morning.

BC Hydro is also reminding residents that if you come across a fallen power line to stay back at least 10 metres — the length of a bus — and call 9-1-1.
