Whitecaps star says he's 'fallen in love' with Vancouver

Brian White is excited about the future of the Vancouver Whitecaps.

The star striker recently signed an extension with the club through 2027. He’s the Whitecaps’ all-time leading MLS scorer and is ready to add more goals this season.

“I’m looking forward to what lies ahead. We have a great locker room with a great supporting staff around the club, and I’m sure that will lead us to even more achievements in the future,” wrote White in a letter to the fans.

White has been one of the team’s most important players in recent MLS seasons. He’s acclimated extremely well on the pitch but also seems to be doing great away from it, fully embracing the city.

“I’m grateful to the club for giving me a chance and their continued belief in me, as well as you, the fans, for cheering us on week in, week out,” wrote White.

“Off the field, my girlfriend and my family have fallen in love with this city over the years, and we couldn’t be happier to extend our time here.”

The Whitecaps are entering a new era as Jesper Sørensen has taken over as manager. His first MLS game provided plenty more reasons for optimism. They beat the Portland Timbers 4-1, showing off a ton of offensive firepower.

New signing Jayden Nelson was particularly impressive, scoring a goal and recording three assists in the victory. His four goal contributions were more than any other player in the first match week.

MLS home opener coming up this weekend

The Whitecaps play their first MLS home match, and second of the season, this weekend as they host the LA Galaxy. Kick-off is at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 2.

Tickets for the game are on sale now and start at just $34. The upper bowl at BC Place is open for the big game, as the Whitecaps are expecting a massive crowd.

The team has some special events planned for the home opener. They’re hosting a family-friendly party on Terry Fox Plaza right outside the arena before the game, including fun games and face painting.

The organization is also giving away a signed Nelson jersey and a copy of EA Sports FC 25. The contest is open now and runs through the end of the day on March 2.

The Whitecaps lost in the first round of last year’s MLS playoffs but are hoping that the great start to the season can help them go further this year.
