The Vancouver Whitecaps have made an exciting signing, and some local fans may recognize the player.
The team announced today the signing of Jayden Nelson, who has five caps for the Canadian Men’s National Team. The 22-year-old forward has been acquired from Norwegian team Rosenborg and has 124 career professional club appearances.
Nelson has agreed to a contract that will keep him with the Whitecaps through 2028, with a club option for 2029.
Before playing at Rosenborg, Nelson was a member of Toronto FC in MLS. He came up through the Toronto FC Academy and was named the 2019 Canadian Youth International Player of the Year.
“We are very familiar with Jayden’s qualities, as he was always a threat when we played him,” said Axel Schuster, Whitecaps FC sporting director, in a press release.
“He is a young and dynamic attacking player with a mix of experience, as well as a potential for growth. We’re excited to welcome Jayden to Vancouver and help him continue to take the next step from where he was one year ago.”

“I’m happy to be back in Canada and grateful for the opportunity that Vancouver has given to me,” said Nelson. “I have a lot to prove to not only the fans but to myself, and I can’t wait to give my all for this club.”
In five games with the Canadian National Team, Nelson has already scored two goals. He has one MLS goal under his belt from his time with Toronto FC.
The Whitecaps are currently playing preseason matches in Spain. It’s the start of a new era as Jesper Sørensen is beginning his first year as manager, replacing the popular Vanni Sartini, who was let go after last year.
